Talk by Mirjam van Biemen, author of ‘Mama wil weg’

until 30 April

Lecture/Debate

Sorry, this activity is no longer available. Check the current offer for available options.

Mirjam van Biemen will give a talk based on her book ‘Mama wil weg’ at the Alles Rous living-room theatre. Musical accompaniment will be provided by singer-songwriter and organiser Mieke Rous.

Mirjam van Biemen was eight years old when her mother took her own life in a psychiatric institution. For years, the true circumstances and motives behind this act remained hidden. Within the family, there was a taboo surrounding Mirjam’s mother – her life seemed to have been wiped out in an instant, as if she had never existed.
In this literary non-fiction book, Mirjam sets out to discover who her mother was and what drove her, aided by her mother’s diaries and conversations with those involved. The result is a poignant yet beautifully written page-turner that will leave no reader unmoved.
The book will be on sale on the evening itself for 20 euros (instead of 23 euros).
