Experience the early Middle Ages during Open Monument Days

On 12 and 13 September, Erve Eme will open its doors during the Open Monument Days. Visitors can visit the site free of charge and immerse themselves in everyday life in the early Middle Ages. There is plenty to see and do this year: for the first time, the future extension area of Erve Eme will also be open to the public.

Over the weekend, alongside the potter Dreams of Clay and AR Gietingen (bronze casters), various re-enactment groups will be in attendance. They bring the past to life and introduce visitors to crafts, customs, clothing and daily life from the early Middle Ages. This is not history from a distance, but an experience where visitors can see, hear and experience at close quarters what life was like centuries ago.

Those who don’t just want to look around but also want to get involved can take part in various short workshops. For a small fee, you can get an accessible introduction to crafts and activities typical of life in the early Middle Ages. For example, come and make tea, weave, spin or fold your own sword! Throughout the weekend, there will be plenty of opportunity to look around, ask the re-enactors questions and soak up the atmosphere of the historic site.
