Frank Mossink (1969) is a photographer from Zutphen who grew up with a love of photography. He specialises in capturing people. It is not just their appearance, but above all their story, character and connection with their surroundings that are central to his work. His photography revolves around encounters: behind every face lies a story, and it is precisely that story he seeks to bring to life.
His best-known project is ‘The Most Beautiful Faces of Zutphen’, a series in which he portrays the city’s most striking, unique and memorable residents. What began as a personal initiative has grown into a much-loved series. Mossink initially shared his portraits on social media, where they quickly gained recognition and appreciation. The series has since evolved into a cultural record of Zutphen.

In his portraits, Mossink does not seek perfect images, but authenticity. Whether an entrepreneur, artist, administrator, craftsman or colourful local, they all receive the same attention: a good conversation, a carefully chosen moment and an image that reveals who someone truly is. The photograph often serves as the starting point; the story behind it completes the portrait.
His approach is personal and engaged. Before a photo session, he takes the time to get to know the person. By listening, he creates images in which people recognise themselves. This partly explains why his portraits resonate so strongly: they are not just about the person being photographed, but also about connection, memories and the town in which people live.
Through *The Most Beautiful Faces of Zutphen*, Mossink is building a visual archive of the town. The series presents a cross-section of Zutphen: from well-known entrepreneurs and local figures to people who may be less in the spotlight but who are nonetheless an important part of town life. At the end of 2023, he celebrated the hundredth portrait in the series, but according to Mossink himself, the collection is never truly complete: there are always new stories to discover.
This summer, a new exhibition based on this series will open. It will feature 12 selected images from the series, which will be displayed throughout 2026 at key public locations across the city. You’ll also find other work by Frank Mossink on display. Visit fotofrank.nl for further dates and locations.
