What began as a moment for herself has grown into a true passion. Annemar (59) from Baak has only been painting for a few years, but is making such great strides that her teacher believes it is time for more people to discover her work. When you see her work, it’s hard to believe she only started painting a few years ago.

“My daughter gave me a nudge to take a short painting course. I’d never even held a paintbrush before,” says Annemar. “The idea was to do something for myself. But it turned out to be much more than that.” After the course, she continued to paint once a month with a fellow student. In difficult times, painting even became a form of therapy. There were periods when she painted almost every day. It brought her peace, a distraction and a sense of fulfilment. That daily painting has really paid off in terms of her development. Annemar now prefers to paint people and animals in oils. She also works as a commissioned portrait painter.

The exhibition is open daily, free of charge, until 1 October at the Den Bouw residential and care centre, Abersonplein 9 in Warnsveld
Her work can be followed online via Facebook and Instagram: @manufortihandcraft. And at www.manufortihandcraft.exto.nl under ‘gallery’.
