Song recital to mark All Souls’ Day
Sunday 1 November
Music
Contemplation, comfort and remembrance are at the heart of this special song recital around All Souls’ Day. On this Sunday afternoon, talented singers and pianists will present an atmospheric programme at the ‘ Martinuskerk ’ in Warnsveld, bringing together song, piano and poetry.
In the special atmosphere of All Souls’ Day, the programme features a repertoire that touches on remembrance and loss, whilst also offering comfort, beauty and tranquillity. The art song, in which words and music are so intimately intertwined, is the ideal genre for this. A special addition is the Japanese song repertoire, performed by the four Japanese song duos taking part in the masterclass.

Contemplation, comfort and remembrance take centre stage in this special song recital to mark All Souls’ Day.
A special addition is the Japanese lieder repertoire, performed by the four Japanese lieder duos taking part in the masterclass.
The recital marks the conclusion of the Lied Duo Masterclass, during which, over the course of an intensive weekend, talented singers and pianists work on interpretation, text, music and ensemble playing under the guidance of master lied accompanist Marien van Nieukerken and soprano Johannette Zomer. During the closing concert, they will demonstrate how they have developed artistically and how their interpretation and ensemble playing have matured and deepened.
The masterclass itself is also open to the public. On Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October, anyone interested can attend the lessons between 10.00 and 17.00 at Atelier ’t Pakhuys, Berkelkade 15a in Zutphen. Admission is €10.00 per day, including refreshments, payable in cash.
A wonderful opportunity to hear these song duets up close and follow the participants’ progress, in a repertoire that invites you to listen, reflect and reminisce.
A project by the Zutphen Summer Academy.
