Drogenapstoren

This tower was built in 1444, when it still stood on the banks of the Berkel. The gate was later bricked up, and from 1888 to 1927 the tower was used as a water tower. The name Drogenapstoren comes from the town musician Thönis van Grol, who lived in the tower in 1555 and would blow his trumpet in times of danger. He was given the nickname ‘Drogenap’ because he always carried a full cup of jenever with him.
