This is the place to be for local products
A great lover of vegetable gardening, Jamilla prefers to buy produce from the season. "Because I'm busy with my own vegetable garden, I understand why certain products are harvested in a certain season. I also find food from the season much tastier and it also immediately encourages you to buy more local, more conscious and more sustainable." Where does Jamilla prefer to go in Zutphen and the surrounding area for fresh nuts, herbs, a good piece of meat, coffee, tea and a good wine? She shares her best tips.
Nuts, herbs and plastic-free jars
When Jamilla strolls through the market on Thursdays, she is in her element. She rarely skips the market and meets acquaintances on every street corner. She prefers to chat regularly with the market vendors and learns more about the products she buys.
Pure Nut Shop
"One of my favourite stalls at the Thursday market was Pure Nootzaak, was, as this entrepreneur has since started her own shop at 29 Lange Hofstraat. There, they sell a very wide range of nuts, seeds, superfoods and more in jars. Almost everything is also immediately plastic-free as a result. I bring my own jars myself to refill my herbs. I also like coming there for the chocolate spread, sweetened with dates, and for cashew nuts.
Plant and spice stall
"The plant stall at the Thursday market is my favourite for my own herb garden," she says. "The stall is very large and especially known for its many, beautiful plants. But what many people don't know is that you can also buy very nice organic herbs and vegetables there to plant in your own
(vegetable) garden."
Also good for nuts, herbs and more:
Noten&Zo - Lange Hofstraat 34
Pure Taste - Korte Hofstraat 16
"I am often one of his first customers while he is still unpacking everything. Then he dives straight into the van because he often knows what I want."
A good piece of meat
Lombok
Jamilla likes to get a good piece of meat from the stall Lombok at the Thursday market. "In winter every week smoked sausage and stew meat and in summer delicious burgers for the barbecue. Also very tasty are the cold cuts, especially the lamb salami. I use those for pizza."
"Arno - the man behind the stall - is very sociable and always having a chat. I'm often one of his first customers while he's still unpacking everything. Then he dives straight into the van because he often knows what I want. Another thing I love is the canned goat. So handy to have in the pantry. Arno prepares it all by himself and has it sustainably canned, it's super tasty."
Also delicious for a good piece of meat:
Van Dam Keurslager - Laarstraat 3
Fresh local fruit and vegetables
Although Jamilla is happy to drive around the block for the best local produce, she doesn't have to walk far from her home for fresh fruit and vegetables. A few doors next door to her house in the Hoven is Groenenfruitig.nl. You can buy vegetables, fruit and potatoes here, or packages such as fruit or soup boxes. It is a real family business. You can order via the webshop, Whatsapp, by e-mail or by phone and your fresh produce will be delivered free of charge in Zutphen and the surrounding area. If you order before 16:00, you will have it delivered the next day. Collection is also possible at set times on the Weg naar Voorst.
Jamilla: "The owner - depending on the season - also sources products from the region or his own land and everything is super fresh and very affordable. You can really see that he is there with passion. Groen en Fruitig also works with low stock and short lead times so there is almost no waste. They use very little packaging material and boxes and crates are reused. I really like the concept and I really enjoy coming there."

Coffee and tea
Anyone talking about coffee and tea cannot ignore De Pelikaan. For years, De Pelikaan has been nationally renowned for its outstanding coffee and tea specialities and craft. When Jamilla needs coffee and tea for home, the Pelican is a regular. "I get a kilo pack of Arabica there as standard, they also serve it themselves when you go there for a cup of coffee and it's really good coffee. I also like to buy chocolate coffee beans there. And of course the teas - they specialise in those. De Pelikaan is one of those joints where I feel: how wonderful it is to live in Zutphen."

Besides coffee and tea at the Pelikaan, you can also go to Van Rossum's Koffie and Kaldi for specialities in Zutphen.

Local wines
There is no shortage of good wines in Zutphen. Winemaker Neleman - nationally known for its good organic wines - has its headquarters here. Schaapveld is also known for its beautiful premises and good wines. But if you really want to see how Achterhoek wines are made, De Fiere Wijnakker is worth a visit. "I've been here once myself and it was really nice and cosy," says Jamilla. "Few people know it's there, I also found out about it via via via but it really is a very nice initiative and worth a visit." As many as two thousand vines of different grape varieties are grown on centuries-old river clay of the river IJssel.
